A Fascinating History
Ye Olde Windmill Inn in Gentleshaw traces its roots to the early 1600s, a fine example of England’s enduring pub heritage. Built beside the Gentleshaw Mill, whose brick tower dates to 1818, the mill ceased operation by 1902, but its presence still graces the garden. By 1933, under the care of Mr Standfield, it stood as a fully licensed inn. The old millstone remained indoors until the 1950s. Today, it remains a proud landmark serving real ales, hearty fare, and a warm welcome beneath its historic tower.

Gentleshaw & Cannock Chase
Gentleshaw, sits gracefully on the edge of Cannock Chase, is a hidden gem of Staffordshire, charming, peaceful, and steeped in history. Once known as “Fagerwell” in the 1200s, it now charms with its wild beauty, especially the marvellous Gentleshaw Common, a protected haven of heather, rare insects, and delicate wildflowers. The village offers woodland strolls, a delightful wildlife centre with rescued creatures, and the striking Christ Church. Surrounded by Burntwood and Lichfield, it’s a pocket of England that feels gently untouched, serene, scenic, and just beautiful
